There are a variety of programs geared toward the youth who live the Montauk Colony lifestyle. One example is that which is provided by Montauk Youth Inc. which seeks to “organize affordable and accessible recreational and cultural activities for the youth of Montauk...[by] organizing activities outright and by working with other groups in Montauk and with the Town of East Hampton to fill gaps in community youth programming.” It provides programing for kids as young as 4 at the Montauk Community Playhouse such as real, classic indoor physical educational fun in the way their parents and grandparents used to play, i.e. without gadgets!
One can also enjoy a visit to the Montauk Catamaran Company LLC which runs US Coast Guard certified charter catamaran sailboats in the area. This family-owned business built the Mon Tiki from scratch and started construction of a second boat, with a similarly James Wharram Polynesian-inspired design.
Then there is the Montauk Library which offers a whole slew of activities for different age groups including a screening of Don’t Think Twice, Krafty Kids: Winter Crafts for kids from 4 and up to make seasonal crafts and Chinese Silk Painting to mark the Chinese new year. There are also free fitness classes at the library (two geared toward the elderly including Chair Yoga) led by Christie Hoyt, a certified fitness instructor.
