Montauk is an oasis, tucked deep into Long Island. While
only about 3000 people live on this hamlet full time, many people pour into the
area to enjoy the beautiful beaches, the hiking trails and the entertainment.
There is much to do here and many reasons to enjoy. Here are five of the best.
- The Lighthouse: The Montauk Point Lighthouse is a beautiful place to visit. You can climb the 137 steps to the top and tour the area. They have a gift shop and a museum exhibit.
- Camp Hero State Park: This used to be a military base and has an amazing amount of wildlife. There are well-maintained trails that you can enjoy and admire the ocean as you walk and relish in the peace and quiet.
- Sail Montauk: Who doesn’t love to go sailing? You can sail on one of Montauk’s charter catamarans on a day cruise and really enjoy the area from this vantage point. Captain David Riley actually built the Mon Tiki himself and it’s the only US Coast Guard Certified passenger vessel that is operating full-time in the area.
- Deep Hollow Ranch: If you love horses, then this is a great way to see the Montauk Colony area. Patrick and Cate Keogh’s family-run ranch is the place to be. You can enjoy pony rides and parties as well, or just get out there and enjoy the nature on a horse.
- Double D Charters: If it’s fish you’re after, it’s fish you’ll find with the Double D. They offer sport fishing opportunities and have been doing so for 20 years. They have sightseeing, sunset cruises, ferry services and ways to enjoy Montauk Colony’s shark tournaments as well.
